Review: Dinings – Japanese – Mayfair

Yes it’s in a basement, the decoration is minimal and the service is wooden, but none of that matters at all! Actually, the restaurant’s minimalism concentrates all attention on the dishes of Chef Tomonaru Chiba and despite other reviews to the contrary, should not be altered.  The menu features many tapas size plates as well as some larger dishes such as Black Cod or Chargrilled Wagyu. The cod fell slightly short of the Roka version but the wagyu was wonderfully tender and flavoursome. Truffles and Foie Gras featured heavily on our visit as the menu changes daily depending on seasonal availability of ingredients. We opted for a very good warm sake as it was freezing outside. Dinings food presentation, flavour and composition is impeccable and beats competitors like Umu all over the shop for the things that really matter. This one might make my recommendations list one day!
